Community orchestra performing classical and pops concerts.
The Auburn Symphony is Placer County's community orchestra, performing since the late 1980s after founder Monroe DeJarnette set out to build an orchestra in the Sierra foothills. Comprised of highly skilled local musicians, the nonprofit presents a diverse season that ranges from classical masterworks to pops programs, holiday and family concerts, and a free outdoor performance, all aimed at engaging audiences across generations. The symphony also runs education and outreach programs for youth in area schools and the community. In recent years it has performed under Music Director Ryan Murray, only the fourth in the organization's history. With offices on Lincoln Way in downtown Auburn, the symphony is a cultural cornerstone of the region, and visitors come for accomplished live orchestral music in an intimate small-city setting.
