Sierra Foothills Wine Trail

The Placer County Wine Trail, part of the broader Sierra Foothills wine region, gathers roughly 20 wineries across oak-dotted hills near Auburn, easily looped together via Interstate 80 and Highway 49 through towns like Loomis, Newcastle, Lincoln, and Rocklin. Rather than a single business, it's a collection of mostly small, low-key tasting rooms known for a friendly, owner-poured feel, with patios, picnic lawns, bocce courts, cheese boards, and frequent weekend food trucks or live music. The Sierra Foothills AVA is especially associated with bold Italian, Spanish, and Rhone varietals such as Tempranillo, Barbera, Syrah, Viognier, and Petite Sirah. Just a short drive from Sacramento, it offers visitors a relaxed, scenic introduction to Placer County wine country.
